Customer Journeys, Funnels, and Conversions, Oh My! (S24E2)

This Week On The Blox

The competition is officially on, and the Bloxers are wasting zero time getting thrown into the deep end.

First up: growth hacking. But forget chasing viral moments or looking for some magical shortcut. The founders are learning how growth actually happens by understanding every step a customer takes from “Who are you?” to “Take my money.”

And because this is The Blox, they’re not just going to talk about the funnel. They’re going to walk it. Literally.

Their first challenge puts the founders inside the customer journey, where they’ll have to prove they understand what needs to happen at every stage and which strategies can keep people moving forward. Because getting attention is one thing. Knowing what to do with it is another.

Then come the judge consultations. The feedback gets honest, the assumptions get challenged, and the blind spots become a whole lot harder to ignore. For some founders, it’s confirmation that they’re onto something. For others, it’s the first sign that the business they walked in with might not be the business they leave with.

And we’re only getting started…

Growth Hacking Is a Process, Not a Lucky Break

The famous Hotmail story might make growth hacking sound like finding one genius trick that suddenly sends your business into orbit. In reality, sustainable growth is usually much less flashy. It comes from testing ideas, paying attention to what the data tells you, and making small improvements over time.

The goal isn’t to stumble onto a viral moment. It’s to understand what moves people forward and keep doing more of what works.

Look Beyond the Big Numbers

Traffic, sales, and new customers matter, but they don’t tell you the whole story. Some of the most useful information lives in the steps between those bigger milestones.

Where are people dropping off? Where are they hesitating? What gets someone to move from interested to engaged, or from trying something to actually buying it?

Looking closely at each transition helps you find the places where a small adjustment could make a big difference.

Give Customers a Reason to Keep Coming Back

Growth doesn’t stop when someone becomes a customer. Keeping the people you already have engaged can be just as important as attracting new ones.

Products and services that consistently deliver value become easier to return to, recommend, and build into a routine. The more naturally your business becomes part of a customer’s life, the more likely they are to stick around and tell other people about it.

Strong retention doesn’t just prevent customers from leaving. It can become a growth engine of its own.

Find the Friction in Your Funnel

Every step a customer takes with your business is an opportunity to either move them forward or accidentally lose them.

Take a closer look at the entire journey. Does your messaging make sense for what they need at that moment? Is the next step obvious? Is signing up or getting started unnecessarily complicated? Are you following up at the right time?

Instead of assuming the entire funnel needs an overhaul, identify the specific moments creating friction. Fixing one weak point can improve everything that comes after it.

Keep the Momentum Moving

A growth hacker’s job isn’t simply to get more eyes on a business. It’s to figure out what helps people take the next step.

That could mean changing a call-to-action, simplifying onboarding, adjusting an email sequence, testing a new message, or reconnecting with customers who have gone quiet.

Growth often comes from a series of small improvements rather than one massive breakthrough. Find where people stop moving, test a way to get them moving again, measure what happens, and repeat.

Kelby McCan
Kelby McCan
Real Estate Development, Serial Entrepreneur and Actor

Kelby McCan has built his life around helping people feel safe when the stakes are high. At 20 years old, he was selected for Air Force Special Warfare Pararescue, beginning a 10-year career that took him across four continents rescuing military personnel and civilians affected by natural disasters. Years later, Kelby found himself on the other side of a crisis. Just two months after purchasing a home in Port Aransas, Texas with his wife and newborn daughter, Hurricane Harvey devastated their property. During the rebuilding process, they discovered that portions of the home had been sold to them with unpermitted dwellings that couldn’t legally be rebuilt. With a mortgage to pay and rental income suddenly gone, Kelby returned overseas to contract in Africa while his family stayed behind. That experience changed the trajectory of his career. Determined to make sure other families had someone protecting their interests during one of the biggest purchases of their lives, Kelby studied real estate while overseas and became an agent. His mission was simple: provide the honest, relentless representation he wished his own family had received. The approach resonated. In his first year, Kelby represented a $2.2 million home and later secured contracts totaling $15 million in properties over a four-month period. Today, Kelby serves the Port Aransas market with the same mindset that defined his military career: protect the people who trust you, stay calm when things get complicated, and never quit when someone is counting on you. For Kelby, real estate isn’t just about selling property. It’s about making sure his clients never feel like they’re facing the biggest decisions of their lives alone.
